Mike Monday is supremely well respected by his peers. His productions and remixes have found homes in a vast array of DJ’s record bags, as he manages to cross boundaries of sounds and appeal to everyone. Previous releases, ‘What Day Is It,’ ‘Tooting Warrior’ and ‘Zum Zum’ were rinsed by guys from Steve Bug and Josh Wink to Mylo and Rob Da Bank. His ‘Bhalobashi’ was a staple of M.A.N.D.Y. sets, who also included it on their Fabric compilation.
Mike’s debut album ‘Smorgasbord’ found huge support from DJ’s and media alike, many noting it as a future classic. He really has a lot to live up to then with his latest long player ‘Songs Without Words – Part1.’ A completely instrumental album, Monday makes complete sense when he says that ‘Lyrics make music specific, but instrumental music can mean completely different things to different people.’ The naming of the tracks is the only clue we get as to where his head was at when producing, but in turn that allows us to go on our own journey.
His new single “I Am Plankton” features Mike’s own Glug Glug Club Dub an interpretation screaming to be heard in the big room. The single also includes the original album version for your listening pleasure. Praised by some of the world’s biggest DJs including Claude Von Stroke, Tiefschwarz, Jimpster, and more, ‘I Am Plankton’ is sure to make some waves.
Mike Monday has never followed the crowd, and this is evident here again. Trippy, weird and wonderful best describes the tracks.
