Ignite the passions of spring with a slow-groovin’ comp designed to awaken you from hibernation: Om Lounge, Vol. 13 is the perfect mix of deep cuts and thick beats, combining your favorite artists from the Om Records roster, new and old. Miguel Migs and Rob Garza bring you up a mid-tempo heaters while Death on the Balcony take you back down with their trademark slow-buildin’ deep house grooves. Lovebirds’ full-fledged disco and laid back vibes play perfectly against Edit Murphy’s spacy slow jams, while the subdued nu-disco of Crazy P entices with vocals over spooky synths. Other lounge-worthy jams from the likes of Justin Martin and Hot Toddy, plus brand-new tracks from Shiny Objects and Afro-Mystik round out this über-cozy compilation.

Edit Murphy is back with his 3rd original release, Metro, on Smoke N’ Mirrors Records.

Available here on Beatport

“Metro” starts off with a chugging kick drum nestled underneath the steady pulse of gradating synthstabs.
Smooth vocals croon and shimmer with effects adding a splash of soul to Edit’s house-flavored
sonic palette.

“California Love” is complete with funk licks and a punchy disco bassline that give a sensual stride with a heavy dose of playful percussion and vocals that make this track a perfect peaktime jam.

“Steppin” rounds out the release and shines with synth flares and a thick, funky bassline that call back to ‘80s electro-funk. Murphy’s take on retro-futurism is anything but trite, bringing the best out of nostalgia with fresh, feel good vibes.

Edit Murphy emerged in October 2011 with his Motown Edits EP, reworked tracks from a handful of originators of Motor City soul, including Marvin Gaye and Bill Withers. The release quickly gained attention all over the Internet, with support from WOLF Music, Space Ranger, Soul Clap and equally mysterious edit-maestros, Tiger & Woods. Edit’s Tracks have appeared in the iconic Om Lounge series, his first single “Need You” was followed up by solid the “Brookly Nights EP” in September of 2012.

In “Mood Swings” EP, Miguel Migs and Shades Of Gray have come together to deliver a fine Deep House affair drenched in rich textures, subtle undertones and moody melodies. Aspects of both classic and modern deep house intertwine expertly on these four tracks, creating edge and dynamism that is dance-floor ready.

The release starts off strong with “Create a Mood,” a truly deep groover of unparalleled freshness. With richly textured vocals, zippy synth stabs, lush layers, and tightly woven percussion, this track creates a mood of total allure and classic deep house appeal. “Down Underground” brings the late-night party vibes with a thick, sinister bass-line and a hypnotic vocal taking you deeper underground and telling you to dance ’til dawn.

“Let Me” is a feel-good moody jam with a thick, chunky bass-line, sparkling synths, hearty handclaps and an undeniable female voice that teases: “let me”. The “Salty Dub” channels more bounce with extra layers of throw back synth chords and a double-boost of boogie.

Smoke N’ Mirrors is on a roll this month bringing the best talent in tech-house and nu-disco to San Francisco and Miami.

Starting with San Francisco on Saturday, March 16th, the Smoke N’ Mirrors residency at Monarch continues, backed by grooves from UK’s rising Maxxi Soundsystem. Maxxi initially came to the public eye with his edit of “Criticize,” getting charted by renowned selectors such as Jacques Renault and Permanent Vacation. Since 2011, he has released a handful of promising EPs, including his recent 4/5 Resident Advisor rated Regrets We Have No Use For single on Hypercolour. Keep an eye out for his remix of Smoke N’ Mirrors resident Shiny Objects’s forthcoming single Higher Ground and catch him this weekend with support from Lance DeSardi, Shiny Objects, and Bachelors of Science’s new house alias Sleight of Hands.

Support comes from locals M3, Lights Down Low’s Sleazemore, and Shiny Objects.
