Don’t miss the launch of the Smoke N’ Mirrors residency at Monarch this Friday, August 24th with a stunning blend of classic and fresh picks from it’s quickly-growing roster. The new label out of San Francisco delivers you the finest in swooning basslines, sun-splashed disco and lovely late night vibes. Wildkats kick off the string of parties, bringing the forefront of UK House to San Francisco’s doorstep. Pulling influences from 80s Funk and New York Disco they began to develop their sound; an energetic combination of groove led house and dubby disco with their trademark Wildkat bassline.

On September 14th, the illustrious Smoke N’ Mirrors mainstay Crazy P will jam alongside local legends PillowTalk. The third party of the season stars the red-hot Edit Murphy on October 5th. Smoke N’ Mirrors is the new name in heavy disco grooves and you can feel the vibes first-hand at their new monthly party at Monarch.

Nothing compliments a sunny afternoon better than a DJ-set full of summer sizzlers. So get your beach blankets out, fire up the grill, and slap on some shades, because Summer Sessions is here to give your dog days a much-needed boost. This compilation is the perfect mix of new school jams and old skool hits: a heavy helping of classic Om tracks from the likes of Ming & FS, Marques Wyatt, King Kooba, and Miguel Migs lend a nostalgic, late-90s house vibe while newer Omies like Crazy P, Pezzner, Shiny Objects, and Nav Izadi lend a modern retake on those deep disco sounds. Including three brand-new, unreleased edits by Rob G, this compilation is sure to add some heat to an already smokin’ hot summer.

Ian Pooley – ‘Know What’s Up’ is out today on Smoke N’ Mirrors everywhere!

Known for his consistently-smoldering dancefloor romancers, Ian Pooley has brought us yet another gem with “Know What’s Up.” A classic R&B vocal rolls on top of a groovy bassline, while layers of uptempo claps and zipping synths give this track some serious energy. The Barbena remix is slower and stripped-down: the vocals have been tweaked and texturized, and spacey synths lend dramatic stabs to a simplified bassline. The Show-B remix takes you deep underground, deconstructing the original track down to an echoing series of throbbing beats and ghostly voices. A slow, continuous build of layers create a perfect ‘afterparty’ vibe.

J Boogie steps into a new realm with an exclusive edit of Little Dragon’s song “Crystalfilm”.

Blurring the lines between deep house, moombahsoul and techno, his version bumps along at 111 BPM with sexy percussive accents, big boom toms, and a Detroit 909 feel. Already getting love from DJs like Anthony Valadez, Jeremy Sole, Sabo, Marques Wyatt & DJ Theory. Enjoy!

Vinyl holds the key to that “warm sound,” not to mention other vinyl-related treats (such as scratching and all other types of turntablism) that cannot seem to be perfectly recreated on digital machines. In other words, nothing beats these the charm of these phono-monsters!
