The Next 1000 is URB’s annual list of bands or artists that the magazine has predicted are
about to make it big. After being carefully screened by the editors and
staff, Samantha James has been chosen for the elite list.
This year, the legendary list has gone broadband, allowing readers to vote
for their favorites. Extended coverage and events are scheduled to follow
for the bands or artists with the highest votes.
Bassnectar’s video “Bomb the Blocks” is up on cravefest.com. Cravefest is an international music video awards festival that recognizes signed and unsigne artists. If you haven’t seen the video already, now is as good a time as ever to go check it out and show our boy Bassnectar some love. He worked hard on this video and you can tell! Its one of my faves!
The winners are determined by votes- and you are the voters!
For all you music lovers out there, our dedicated friends at Groove the Globe are bringing you an amazing trip into the world of house. In production now, “Global Groove Network- The Film” is a documentary of one man’s journey into examining the connection between DJ culture and the global community. For the past year, the producer has traveled all over the world to all the parties, interviewed your favorite DJ’s, as well as music lovers to find the meaning in this connection.
From the trailer, it already looks amazing. Your favorite DJ’s are interviewed front and center, and many of the parties this documentary were filmed at were parties that most of us went to! I personally can’t wait until the whole project is finished and we get to take the journey with them. Being a part of this film has been fun for us at Om as well, and we thank Groove the Globe for thinking of us.
The highly anticipated new artist album from underground cult heavyweight, Bassnectar, combines the visceral melodic presence of modern listening music with the force and volume of sounds system dancehall devastation! Playing at over one-hundred and fifty shows a year; to thousands of different people a month; from sold out festivals to overcrowded clubs and warehouses, to tightly packed tiny bars and venues; Bassnectar’s enormous popularity reflects the current hunger for raw substance in modern music. “Underground Communication”: is an exploration of hiphop culture, featuring scores of MCs and rhythmic poetics mashed atop a heavy, driving range of tempo and of course, those signature throbbing bass lines. Rooted in political conviction, philosophical intention and backed by a rabid fan base and dedicated following, “Underground Communication” sets a new standard for the possibilities of merging music, art, new media, and social activism.
Fresh from their show stopping event at this year’s WMC, Om Records continues its assault on your senses with two headline parties for the 2007 Sonar festival. Profiling two shades of respected Om music at the worlds leading progressive electronic music festival, 2007 highlights both established names on the label as well as welcoming the new wave of talent in the beautiful and cosmopolitan city of Barcelona!
Opening the weekend of festival fun, deep house Godfather Mark Farina welcomes you into his “House of Om” to celebrate the release of his acclaimed new album alongside Om and San Francisco’s leading light DJ Fluid aka Afromystik. Completing the line-up, Spain’s own Al Velilla, co-pilot behind Pacha Recordings and during late 90’s one of first and most innovative labels in the country D Press Industries, brings the Balearic sunkissed vibes. Set in the lush surroundings of Mondo on the Spanish coastline; Om’s groovy basslines and jackin rhythms will be perfectly at home alongside the panoramic views of the Mediterranean.
As the festival kicks into high gear on Saturday night, a host of new talent steps up to showcase the united nations of future music that keeps Om at the cutting edge of fresh sounds. New Om Europe signing Mike Monday brings the bleeps n bounce of his signature sound alongside an exclusive Sonar performance from Jesse Rose with his unique blend of Chicago house and Detroit techno all wrapped up with a UK twist and finally futuristic house beats from Sweden’s Style of Eye. Hosted in the spectacular open air surroundings of La Terraza, Om Records finishes the festival with a flourish.
