Om is teaming up with KCRW and Vieroy Santa Monica to present a unique New Years Eve experience. We’re bringing together some of the greatest music selectors of today for a night of food, drinks, and eclectic music.

Featuring Music Selection From

King Britt (FiveSixMedia, Om)
A legend and an amazing DJ / producer like no other, King Britt is well accomplished. As a member of the Grammy Award winning Digable Planets, King was credited for starting Ovum Recordings with Josh Wink, and has a production/remixing resume that includes everyone from Miles Davis and Zap Mama to Solange Knowles and Macy Gray.

Jason Bentley (Morning Becomes Eclectic, KCRW)
Jason Bentley is KCRW’s Music Director and host of one of the most influential radio shows in the US, Morning Becomes Eclectic. Jason is hands down, one of the most important music selectors of today.

Raul Campos (Nocturna, KCRW)
The night wouldn’t sound the same without Raul Campos spinning the soundtrack. Born and raised in East L.A., Raul has his finger on the pulse of what makes this city beat. House, down-tempo, urban-soul, and Latin rhythms blend together for a killer mix.

Jamie Strong (Stones Throw Records / Do Over)
With the official title of “Minister of Information” at Stones Throw Records, Jamie Strong is one of LA’s most important tastemakers. His weekly summer season event, titled, “The Do Over” has become one of the most important parties in Southern California. Past guests have included AM, Peanut Butter Wolf, Spinderella, A-Trak, and Om’s very own J-Boogie, JT Donaldson, and King Britt.

I just had the experience to travel to New York to see Bassnectar perform at the Fillmore East last friday, wow! I walked up to the venue around 9pm and kids we’re already lined up down the street, scalpers were on every corner, kids offering to pay $150 a ticket to get inside. The floor was packed at 10pm and kids were pushing their way to front of the room to get as close to the stage as possible. Nosaj Thing opened the night with an amazing atmospheric beat heavy set. Bassnectar started at around 12am, the whole room exploded. The sound system picked a couple decibels as Lorin got deep into his set. The vibe and energy in the room was unexplainable. From young kids to head bangers, everyone was in a frenzy. Just to get an idea, check out the live stage cam from the DC show below.

What up internet, the name’s intern #1 and I’m here to bring you recaps of the Bay Area’s finest events. Last night I had the pleasure of seeing RJD2 spin some of his favorite tracks at Vessel’s hipster frenzied Infatuation.

The eclectic set, which ranged from atmospheric hip hop to funky, 80’s pop brought an equally eclectic audience, and everyone from the diehards in front to the curious onlookers in the back seemed to be having a good old time.

Not to mention Infatuation’s 2 for 1, well-poured drinks. A lot of fine drinking glasses lost their life last night due to the slippery conditions on the dance floor. The place was packed and the floor was glassy.

Vessel’s DJ booth didn’t have enough room for RJD2’s gear, and thus we got a more mashed up, Serato-scratch live set. I think that RJD2 is best served on 3 or 4 turntables, but I still had a really good time last night, and I’m glad I witnessed the man throw down his favorite tunes.

Also, a shout out to DJ Centipede who really rocked it. He pumped the audience up with a subtle remix of RJD2’s “The Horror”, the first track off the 2002 critically acclaimed album Deadringer. Look out for this guy.

In full recap, I think the night gets a 2.5 out of 4. Had RJD2 brought his own decks, the number would be higher.

I’m intern #1 and I’ll be reviewing indie/electro/dance shows in the up and coming months. Next time I hope to bring you pictures. If you have any photos of this show or those in the future, send them to, and I’ll put them up.

You Heard It First
: Here’s an insider’s note, RJD2 will be dropping a remix of Bassnectar on Om’s Childs Play imprint. Joining him on remix duties for Bassnectar will be DJ Vadim, Nosaj Thing, Robot Koch, Amp Live, and Mexicans With Guns. Should be dropping very very soon.

It’s that time of the year again! Time to strip down to your gold knickers, don furry boots, and celebrate love with 100,000 or so ravers, hippies, and hipsters. The Love Fest returns to San Francisco, Saturday October 3rd. Renamed Lovevolution, newbies can expect a freak show of colors, costumes, lovers, haters and more. Parade regulars can expect the same amazingly fun times.

Parade and Festival Grounds

This year the Om label is taking the back seat letting our new born imprint, Child’s Play take the lime light. Joining forces with premiere production team Flavor Group, the two teams will be involved in producing the Solid Gold Jacuzzi Float. Winner of the “Best Float” for so many years we can’t even keep count, we promise you a wild time full of gold pasties, glitter, beautiful people and lots of surprises.

Presenters Scion and AMP Energry Drink will be joining in the fun this year. Pick up a free Scion or AMP download card at the float to download full DJ sets by the artist playing on the Solid Gold Jacuzzi Float.

Although the festival ends at 8pm, the party at Mezzanine will just be getting started. Gold Dust’s Trackademicks & K Flay, DJ Fluid, and more. House heads, hipsters, clubbers, and all around Loving people will take over Mezzanine for the most unique Love Fest after parties this year.
