Soul Vibrations Dub Remixes

Om Records is proud to present a new style of remix album from J-Boogie’s Dubtronic Science, ‘Soul Vibrations,’ The Dub Remixes. Following in the footsteps of Dub Masterpieces like Massive Attack’s “No Protection” or Roots Manuva’s “Dub Come Save Me” J-Boogie takes his album into outer space and packs it into the bong. After releasing Soul Vibrations in September 2008 with critical acclaim, J-Boogie continued the vibe with music videos, Youtube features, remixes from Vadim, Crazy P and King Most, a tour with Herbaliser and an appearance on the latest Mushroom Jazz. Staying fresh on the festival circuit, touring with the likes of Bassnectar, Vadim, Spearhead, Widespread Panic, and opening up for legends such as Breakestra, RJD2, PPP, Nickodemus, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, J-Boogie has also made several international DJ trips to cities in Japan, Columbia, Canada and India. Producing remixes for Mark Farina, Alice Russell, DJ Sabo, DJ Vadim, Karsh Kale, Miguel Migs and Zeph & Azeem, J-Boogie has gained multitudes of respect within the hip-hop, soul, electronic, dance and jam band community. ‘Soul Vibrations’ is a perfect blend of why we’ve come to love him: bangin beats, future soul, dance floor party tracks and organic instrumental compositions.

‘Soul Vibrations The Dub Remixes’ is the next step in tripped out remixes from the funky studio sound of Space Echo’s and Analog Delays, featuring the full horn and percussion section plus an all-star line-up of friends having their vocals sent through the dub box including Lyrics Born, Zumbi (of Zion I), Crown City Rockers, Ohmega Watts, Rich Medina, Capitol A, Tony Moses, The Mamaz, Deuce Eclipse, Rithma, Tim’m West, Jennifer Johns, The Rebirth, Lunar Heights, and more. “The Dub Remixes” are destined to become a stoner’s classic soundtrack for the Summer.

Cates&dpL 'Through the Weekend'

The debut from Om’s new dynamic duo — a journey through all things electronica — full of driving rhythms, lush atmospherics, and stunning synths!
When two talented forces come together unifying their knowledge of everything music — something special happens; enter Cates&dpL. With backgrounds in the industry as both musicians and as tour management, Jon Cates and David Lind have grown and developed together to push the envelope with their unique sound.
Cates&dpL have been noted for their musicianship since they started in 2003, and over the past five years they have matured alongside their musical techniques and devices. Not wanting to sound like every other electronic act, they have put more attention on being a team rather than solo artists. This effort stands out in their carefully crafted music, and they gain influence from one another every day giving each track they produce its own character and feeling.

When considering what would be the best for their newest recording effort (which will actually be their third studio album), Jon and Dave were determined to present their new material to the public in a way that shows the real side of their artistry, a side that displays true musicianship.

Although many people would consider them newbies, Cates&dpL have been achieving success since day one. Triumphs for the duo have put them in coveted spots including #1 placement on Beatport’s Breaks Downloads, a feature on James Zabiela’s DJ Mag covermount CD, as well as a feature on the Global Underground Paris compilation — mixed by Nick Warren. These successes have only pushed the two harder. Their recent remixes of Ladyhawke, Michael Jackson, and Nina Simone have seen heavy blog rotation and support from Carl Cox, Mike Monday, D. Ramirez and more.

In support of the release of ‘Through the Weekend,’ we’ve decided to give you a free download of an oldie but goodie. Released on the Samantha James ‘Angel Love’ remix ep, the somewhat slept on Cates & dpL (Portland Beaver Mix) is a nice introduction of their remix work. Keep an eye out for more remixes from the up and coming production duo as they’ve finished current projects for Wolfgang Gartner and current boots for Zion I, MIA, Ladyhawke & Pink Floyd. Click here to download a 320 MP3 of Samantha James ‘Angel Love’ (Cates & dpL Portland Beaver Mix).

And least but not last, the production duo just hit me with a special podcast showcasing their new productions with select songs from ‘Through the Weekend’ and the whitelabel remix of Ladyhawke. You can stream or download it on the podcast page here.

Through the Weekend Podcast Tracklist

1.Prolectro

3.PeerPressure

4.Through The Weekend

5. Ladyhawk – Magic (cates&dpL Make Magic Bootleg)

Jazzual Suspects with Lincoln and The Grammys

There are times when an artist is so prolific that he has to have several different monikers purely based on how many genres he touches and the amount of music being produced. This is King Kooba aka Colossus aka Beats Department aka the newly formed Jazzual Suspects who has been the talk of the town after being featured on Mark Farina’s Mushroom Jazz 6. The Jazzual Suspects is the brain trust of Charlie Tate, a 6ft 8 South Londener, Bay Area transplant, Chelsea and Oakland A’s fan who can roast the hell out of a lamb shank. The Jazzual Suspects is a new vibe from the colossal one, reminiscing of the new but old acid jazz era of the mid 90’s. Heavy on sampled drums, smooth piano chords and bits and pieces of horns and guitars is laced throughout music that only leads to one thing; infectious head banging. Noticed by KCRW and several other radio personalities, having the number one single downloaded track on the MJ6 album, The Jazzual Suspects were inviting to take part in a music video contest put together by Lincoln, in which the winner’s video would air in a 30 second spot during the commercials at the Grammy’s. As it turns out, Funkin’ Koobad, a song featured on a digital only mix called Downtempo Garden was chosen and we received two produced videos from local directors Noah Harald and Little Red Robots. Check out the videos below and look out for the free download of Funkin’ Koobad after the jump. Stay tuned for more from The Jazzual Suspects including an ep series and full length to be confirmed.

Flavor Innovator is the ish....

The truth, the business, the pixels; Flavor Innovator also known as Steve Ha is the dude. I started working with him back in 2002 on my first big hip hop show in the Bay, MF Doom at DNA Lounge. We broke in to the scene together, Steve designed the fliers and i ran and booked the shows. It was a great partnership until the day came when he had so many clients hiring him that i had to wait in line for my designs. Go Flavor Innovator! Time passed, Steve had a monopoly on flyer designs for the Bay Area and i was hired to Om Records. We then started working on album covers and cd projects and he flipped the Zeph & Azeem ‘Rise Up’, J-Boogie’s Dubtronic Science ‘Soul Vibrations; and E Da Boss ’Go Left’ 12inch designs for me without a blink of an eye. For me, he is one of the most talented graphic designers that i have ever worked with. To this date, his client list is over a 100 deep ranging from artists like Lyrics Born to clothing companies such a Exact Science as well as building websites; he is the real deal hollyfield. Peep this little in depth interview courtesy of Satva and Vimby.com. Look closely for the jonthecorner appearance living large of 3rd and Townsend. Steve you are the MAN!

Check out the Flavor Innovator Website.
