Smoke N’ Mirrors is on a roll this month bringing the best talent in tech-house and nu-disco to San Francisco and Miami.
Starting with San Francisco on Saturday, March 16th, the Smoke N’ Mirrors residency at Monarch continues, backed by grooves from UK’s rising Maxxi Soundsystem. Maxxi initially came to the public eye with his edit of “Criticize,” getting charted by renowned selectors such as Jacques Renault and Permanent Vacation. Since 2011, he has released a handful of promising EPs, including his recent 4/5 Resident Advisor rated Regrets We Have No Use For single on Hypercolour. Keep an eye out for his remix of Smoke N’ Mirrors resident Shiny Objects’s forthcoming single Higher Ground and catch him this weekend with support from Lance DeSardi, Shiny Objects, and Bachelors of Science’s new house alias Sleight of Hands.
Next week, in San Francisco (again!) on March 22nd, Smoke N’ Mirrors returns to Monarch in collaboration with Lights Down Low to bring disco edit flavor makers, Tiger & Woods. Tiger & Woods have been an SF favorite for a minute now, bringing out heads from all edges of the San Francisco house scene to parties put on by fellow tech-house purveyors As You Like It. Support comes from locals M3, Lights Down Low’s Sleazemore, and Shiny Objects.
Lastly, if you happen to be in Miami for WMC/Ultra, you’ll be pleased to know that Smoke N’ Mirrors has teamed up with The Electric Pickle and Red Bull Music Academy to put together a heavily stacked line up for Inside/Out, including exclusive sets from DJ Harvey, Osunlade, along with a slew of other performances from SNM artists, such as Maxxi Soundsystem, Edit Murphy, Death on the Balcony, Shiny Objects, along with friends, Jacques Renault, PBS Streetgang, PillowTalk, and more. Needless to say, this party goes on into the wee hours of the morning.
Plan to get there early, and you can get a limited discount presale for $15 on Resident Advisor HERE!!!
Mysterious music-maker Edit Murphy is gearing up for a two-week tour coinciding with his upcoming “Brooklyn Nights” EP on Smoke N Mirrors.
Edit emerged almost a year ago, in October 2011, with his Motown Edits series. Edit reworked tracks from a handful of originators of Motor City soul, including Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, and Stevie Wonder. The release quickly gained attention all over the Internet, with support from equally mysterious edit-maestros, Tiger & Woods. His latest track “Need You” first appeared on OM Lounge Vol. 12 and was released as a single on Smoke N Mirrors earlier this summer.
East Coasters will be able to catch him prior to the release as he moves up from Miami toward New York. Following the release, he will hit the West Coast starting in San Diego and ending in San Francisco at Monarch for the Smoke N Mirrors monthly.
In anticipation of the tour, Edit made a podcast for Music is 4 Lovers, the San Diego-based blog dedicated to deep, cutting-edge dance music. Edit certainly takes it deep, while accentuating, his signature sound that pays respect to the classic sounds of house and disco. The tracklist includes artists such as Vicenzo, Urulu, Bicep & Omar Odyssey, along with a track of his own titled, “California Love.”
