It’s a sad sad week. Longtime supporters of Om and friends, Fat Beats has announced that they are closing their New York and Los Angeles locations. The indie hip hop retailer was once a mecca for a massive collection of beats ranging from mainstream to the underground. They were the go to people for anything hip hop related. The NYC store is closing on September 4th and the Los Angeles store on September 18th.

Fat Beats definitely held it strong. Mad love for Mark, Chris, Johnny, and the rest of the Fat Beats retail crew!

Bassnectar killed it at Outside Lands this year. So much that the huge generator that could literally power a city block was overloaded and shut down for 10 minutes. There was no power anywhere to be found and the crowd was left confused. I found a mega-phone behind the stage and immediately gave it to Bassnectar where he was able to communicate the message to the people. Finally, the power went back on and havoc pursued. If you were there, you might have been lucky enough to grab one of the big Bassnectar beach balls blowing around in the crowd. Check the videos and photos below to get a better idea.

Our friends at URB.com got to hang with Thes One and Double K at Outside Lands 2010. The fog may have been looming over SF, but that didn’t stop PUTS from kicking off the 2 day concert in typical PUTS party fashion. Check out the video here.

From Fred Everything: This is the first part of my humble tribute to my favorite record store in the world who, sadly, closed its door 2 weeks ago. I was fortunate enough to be a part if this store as a salesman in the mid/late 90s and continued as a customer until they closed. This mix focuses on the 96-99 sound, one of my favorite time for House Music. Thx to Christian Pronovost for the years of dedication and to my good friend Phil Larochelle for helping down memory lane with the tracklisting of this mix. This was all done Live, 2 turntables and a mixer. Recorded on a friday afternoon, our weekly Record store day in Montreal. Enjoy!
