Setting the mood to this electrifying evening of events was Oakland Faders own, DJ Platurn; keeping heads busy while in between performances. Longtime Zion I kinsmen Deuce Eclipse displayed his lyrical prowess over Latin/hip-hop grooves. His set had myself, as well as the whole crowd, hypnotized; anticipating what he’ll do next. Switch from English to words in Spanish only added to the drama he brought to the stage. I thought to myself, “how would I classify his sound & presence…” And I thought, a Hip-Hop Carlos Santana.

This is not to take way from Eligh of Living Legend’s performance. His performance was an exhibition of metaphorical meticulousness; unfolding lyrics at autobahn speed with the precision of a sniper. Giving fans a taste on what to expect on his newest album,
“Gray Crow”.

And then the moment we were all waiting for, the Zion I crew step on stage like they were greeting a crowd of friends to a celebration. They were the stars of the night; shaking fans hands showing the continued love for support. Zion I had command over the crowd like train conductors; heads bobbing in hypnosis as they inhale the gifts brought by the legendary Bay Area emcees. Zumbi guided fans on a trip through Zion I classics from their previous releases before they pulled out new bangers from there lastest endeavor, Atomic Clock. The biggest treat was when Amp Live stepped out from behind the turntables and started playing digital tag between his MIDI controller and the crowd which is something I’ve never witnessed at a hip hop show.

Most definitely this was a show in which I was extremely impressed by the entire line-up. Once again they brought the experience of a hip-hop performance to another level; a higher plateau for other acts to strive for. Also, this was a show for fans of all ages, now that’s love!!!

Zion-I writes that this album is there “usual mix of sonic exploration”” I say it’s the return to the reason why there sound remains infectious. From tracks like Always, Polarity & Many Stylez you’ll hear the elements of their musical evolution wrapped around moments of mastery.

This album takes me back to the experimental remnants of Zion-I’s first album, Mind Over Matter. Yes, this is definitely a classic in the making!

Below are two FREE downloads: Polarity & Many Stylez

Come celebrate & show your support at Zion-I upcoming Atomic Clock CD release party this weekend; Saturday, Nov. 20th 7 & Sunday, Nov 21st @ Slim’s in San Francisco. Click Here For Details

September 24th, 2010 was mos’ definitely a night to remember. This is the reason why I love hip-hop. Under one roof you had Black Milk, Elzhi (of Slum Village) and DJ House Shoes displaying head nodding, hip shaking lyrics over thought provoking grooves. Emcees back by a live band & an ill DJ what else can you ask for?

All in celebration of Black Milk’s latest album release,Album Of The Year. A rare album, in which I was actually able to listen through the entire album, from track to track, and stay interested, engaged & entangled by Black Milk’s witty wordplay. Yes, people, this evening Frequency has done it again!

It’s another installment from Zion I’s Amp Live delivering a definite dose of electric funk. Coming from a history of defying all boundaries when it comes to the contemporary sounds of music, this video is evidence that the mission lives on.

Prepare yourself as Amp Live plays the role of a electro-magnetic maestro as he guides you through an electric fairytale of injected images of breaking dancing, ninjas, & chickens (that’s right I said it). This video takes you on a muscle bond journey of beats that even I have a problem NOT moving too. Damn it, for being so catchy! ‘Chick Pop’ was recently featured on MTV’s Buried Life. You can get the track off of Amp Live’s recent solo album, “Murder At The Discotech”.
