Fresh off the success of last year’s Social Studies LP, Body Language have returned with their trademark sound of future-shocked pop, blended with a dash of Soul and R&B. Or as the Brooklyn quartet puts it, “Our world still exists in an indie-disco bubble; we’re just pushing the limits of every genre to a point where the bubble’s about to pop.”

That’s certainly the case with “Lose My Head”—a floor-filler that’s driven by late ‘70s funk licks and diamond-encrusted keys. The Jimmy Edgar remix shakes down the original vocals and lays them cleanly on top of a spacy, no-nonsense acid bassline for a proper throw-back groove. Light Year’s remix takes us to the edge of minimalism, with choppedup vocals, chunky 808s, and space-age blips and beeps.

As an alternative to mainstream media, college radio has been an outlet for listeners to discover up-and-coming artists. CMJ, short for College Music Journal, has been a key curator for music played on college radio stations nationwide since 1980. Along with their charts, reviews, and news pieces, CMJ presents hundreds of talented artists in a number of clubs in Manhattan and Brooklyn each fall for their annual festival. This year, October 16 – October 20 begins another round of CMJ Music Marathon in which the Lavish Habits’ Blackbird Blackbird, Maus Haus, and Body Language will be making appearances at the following venues on the following dates:

Blackbird Blackbird’s newest single “All” is out on Lavish Habits. The new single shows off his pop sensibilities, thick with echoing guitar plucks and soothing, lightly-treated vocals. Chiming synths and fluttering clicks splash color on top of a melancholic tone. Clean four-to-the-floor beats and a lovely synth lead dissipate into dreamlike samples of incomprehensible speech and smooth, lapping waves.

Also on the release is Distal’s remix of Blackbird Blackbirdʼs “Keep It Up,” taking it into a dark, barreling techno track. Blackbirdʼs crooning vocals stab into the rolling kick drum, complete with frenetic bubbling effects. The beat is broken up with touches of two-step futurism and at the very end, a playful flute appears to brighten the fade out.

Check out the official music video to the single here!

Wake up to a pandemonium of sound with StereoHeroes’ “Deviations Vol 1” EP, out now on Child’s Play records. The French electronic duo bring chaotic rhythms and pounding basslines into all three high-powered tracks. Combining their influences from techno, house, ghetto tech, hip-hop and rock, StereoHeroes have been crafting their anarchic style and keeping dance floors alive worldwide since 2008. “Waxworks” dives into a spiraling techno beat accompanied by hypnotic samples, while “Numbers” continues to dive into the deep end with a steady and rapid pulse. “Blackbot” escalates into an systematic uproar, bringing together their limitless rhythms and finishing off with a de-stressing breakbeat.
