Ultra Music Festival revealed its Phase One lineup announcement. I do have the say that the UMF has continually gotten more exciting with each yet. Once viewed as pool of candy ravers, the UMF’s lineup in recent years have really done its job in accurately showcasing current trends in the Electronica and Dance genres. This year there is an ambitious mix of live indie electro / dance bands and DJ sets.
You guys all remember Groove Armada’s multiple day booking last year right?
Tickets are still on sale for $179.95 for 3-day general admission.

VTech, Stussy, and others are joining forces to present for the heads this Friday, December 17th at Mighty. On the musical bill is legendary hip hop / R&B artist Ali Shaheed Muhammad. Ali Shaheed is most well known for being 1/3 of legendary hip hop trio, A Tribe Called Quest and R&B supergroup, Lucy Pearl.
Along with bandmates, Q-Tip and Phife, Ali Shaheed Muhammad went on to recording five albums as A Tribe Called Quest, and establishing ATCQ as hip hop legends. Tribe exited the world via the same stage as The Beatles and The Police, but their influence still lives with artists like D’Angelo, Common, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, The Roots and Musiq. (see A Tribe Called Quest Movie coming in 2011. )
After Tribe, Ali co-founded a new super trio named Lucy Pearl. Here with band members Dawn Robinson and Raphael Saadiq, he was able to explore more of his music abilities. Lucy Pearl fused funk, rock, R & B and hip-hop bringing a new energy and sound which remains to be duplicated.

Famed director, Danny Boyle directs FRANKENSTEIN, a new play by Nick Dear, based on the novel by Mary Shelley, in the Olivier Theatre in London. Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller will alternate the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature; the cast also includes Mark Armstrong, Naomie Harris, Karl Johnson, Daniel Millar, Andreea Padurariu, John Stahl and Lizzie Winkler. This is not the first time Danny and Underworld have worked together. Underworld, created the score for 2007’s Sunshine, and of course the cult hit, Trainspotting. We hear there is a Trainspotting remake in the works……
