Om is teaming up for the 2nd year straight with KCRW and Vieroy Santa Monica to present a unique New Years Eve experience. We’re bringing together some of the greatest music selectors of today for a night of food, drinks, and eclectic music.
Featuring Music Selection From
Mayer Hawthorne (DJ Set) (Stones Throw Records, LA)
One of the hottest names to come from the underground, Mayer Hawthorne has spent 2009 and most of 2010 becoming a household name. With his “Retro-motown” feel, he’s helped to bring back sophisticated classic soul into the mainstream. What many don’t know is that he started out as a DJ. For this special event, he will be putting down the mic inexchange for some vinyl records and paired up with the producers behind his recent track, “No Strings”.
Classixx (Los Angeles, CA)
Tyler Blake and Michael David, childhood friends, started a DJ duo in the suburbs of Los Angeles and quickly became blog sweethearts with their sun-kissed electronic remixes of Drop The Lime, Groove Armada, Fischerspooner, Shiny Toy Guns, and more. Most recently Classixx helped produced the newest Mayer Hawthorne track, “No Strings”. Classixx’s are putting the final touches to their debut artist album.
Jason Bentley (Morning Becomes Eclectic, KCRW)
Jason Bentley is KCRW’s Music Director and host of one of the most influential radio shows in the US, Morning Becomes Eclectic. Jason is hands down, one of the most important music selectors of today.
Raul Campos (Nocturna, KCRW)
The night wouldn’t sound the same without Raul Campos spinning the soundtrack. Born and raised in East L.A., Raul has his finger on the pulse of what makes this city beat. House, down-tempo, urban-soul, and Latin rhythms blend together for a killer mix.
Los Angeles hip-hop duo People Under The Stairs (Thes One & Double K) present “BEER” the official Music Video off the album “Carried Away” out now on Om Records. Produced by Piecelock70 & Om Records and directed by Matt Hobbs of Vital Films, the video for BEER takes a no nonsense approach to the House Party. Filmed over a weekend in Fort Collins and Boulder, Colorado People Under the Stairs begin the video with their very own Laverne and Shirley remake intro before going to work at the Odell Brewery making their special recipe of BEER to get the party started.
VERY exciting news today. One of the most influential radio stations focusing on new and exciting groundbreaking music, KCRW, has decided to name ‘1980’, a new track off the recently released “White Light” album as Today’s Top Tune! This is a very hot promo so check it out, you can even pick up the single for free download, but its only going to last today so get on it!
With their sixth studio album ‘Barking’ – out now to widespread critical acclaim – Underworld have once again performed a feat of creative regeneration; the duo have announced their next single ‘Bird 1’ will be released digitally on November 23rd. The shuddering machine pulses of ‘Bird 1’ – the album’s opener – has been reworked by several DJs and producers:
Smoke N’ Mirrors is hitting you with a one-two punch with another release today, this time from house master Pezzner. His new release on Smoke N’ Mirrors, ‘What Have I Done’ is a deep house cut with bouncing bass lines and sharp strings which are guaranteed to heat up any parties this winter.
The real treat comes in the not one BUTTWO mixes from house legend Ian Pooley. The first mix is a classic house jam that has all the pieces you would look for; a funky bass line and funkier chords make this a classic. On the second mix, Pooley uses many of the same elements but modernizes the mix by shuffling up the track and adding some tech to it. Check it out exclusively at BEATPORT .

Zion-I writes that this album is there “usual mix of sonic exploration”” I say it’s the return to the reason why there sound remains infectious. From tracks like Always, Polarity & Many Stylez you’ll hear the elements of their musical evolution wrapped around moments of mastery.
This album takes me back to the experimental remnants of Zion-I’s first album, Mind Over Matter. Yes, this is definitely a classic in the making!
Below are two FREE downloads: Polarity & Many Stylez
Come celebrate & show your support at Zion-I upcoming Atomic Clock CD release party this weekend; Saturday, Nov. 20th 7 & Sunday, Nov 21st @ Slim’s in San Francisco. Click Here For Details
