BPitch Control’s head honcho Ellen Alllien recently started a fashion line full of printed, cut, and sew pieces.
From Ellen Alllien
The new ellen allien fashion spring/summer collection 2010 captures just that very feeling of the moment. As the extravagant colors of the flowers fade into the night, a sentimental new world of black and white is open to discoveries and urges of movement in all directions. Light and airy dancing freedom; black floral lace; white and black floral stitched cotton, delicate dark summer whool; hazy prints of dancing people on loose cut T-shirts; each detail transports the feeling of night flowers; leading dreamingly throughout the night…

Germany is a country known more for dark techno and minimal house than it is for deep disco, however Hamburg’s Marco Niemerski (aka Tensnake) may be the exception. Tensnake has garnered respect in the dance world for his unique warm sunny blend of house, disco, and electro. With remixes for the likes of Junior Boys, Shally Shapiro,Toby Tobias (for Radio Slave’s rekids label) and even a remix for indie electro rock band, The Faint, Tensnake has been on everyone’s radar.
Permanent Vacation just dropped Tensnake’s single “Coma Cat” and it’s sick! A nice sampling of Marco’s sun-kissed disco house style. Tensnake is currently in the studio putting together his album. You can also check for new singles coming out on Ghostly and more.

New York label Wolf + Lamb just officially released one of the hottest tracks that has already been featured on many podcasts and DJ charts since late last year. Nicolas Jaar’s “Mi Mujer” from the EP “Time For Us” is an electronic masterpiece. The track is a creeper with seductive vocals that are sure to work it’s magic on crowds.
Nicolas Jaar was born in NY but quickly relocated to Santiago de Chile in the 90s only to come back to his birth place as a teenager. Haunted by Mulatu Astatke and Erik Satie, Nico started to make organic electronic music in 2004 at the age of 14. At 17, he made his debut with “The Student EP” on Wolf and Lamb Music with a remix by Seth Troxler who called him " one of the most talented minds dance music is about to see develop". At 18, he continued producing and played live at Club Der Visionaire and Arena in Berlin, at the Marcy in Brooklyn, at Communikey in Colorado and at Mutek in Mexico City. Now 19, studying at Brown University in Rhode Island, Nico has releases coming up on Circus Company, Wolf + Lamb and on his own label, Clown and Sunset (www.clownandsunset.com) of which he is the owner and founder.

Awaken Cafe and Slow-Gin present a “First Friday” love songs and photography exhibition in The Town!
When: Friday, February 5th, 2010, 5-8pm
What: Slow-Gin DJ Set + Meet & greet with photographer Winston J. Dong Jr.
Where: Awaken Cafe (414 14th St, Oakland, CA – between Broadway and Franklin)
More on the exhibition from Winston himself:
What I look at in my photography—and how I take my photographs — is about pausing and taking a closer and slower look at the juxtapositions and quirkiness of everyday places and objects, how people use them, and how they change us at a particular time of the day.
I’m attempting to start a story with a picture: think about how a radio piece or a country song can give you such a strong image; I’m trying to achieve the inverse, not by focusing on portraits, but on places and parts of places and how people move through them and see them and are affected by them.
Growing up in New York, “catching the sun” was the phrase I used in my mind to describe racing through the West Village down to the Hudson River to catch the setting sun and looking at all the places and people I passed in that late afternoon light.

Some of the most shocking footage I’ve ever seen, Vice TV takes us to Monrovia, Liberia home to the worst slums in Africa and even the world. Plagued with 3 Civil Wars since the early 90’s, the poverty stricken people of Liberia are heavily engaged in drug addiction, disease, murder, rape, prostitution and even cannibalism. Visit the VBS.tv site for the complete 8 segment series and beware of the shocking footage.

It’s been a tad over 2 weeks and the delicious GPA (Gunnther’s Pale Ale) has been chillin’ in the secondary fermenter AKA The Glass Carboy! The term carboy comes from the Persian word qarabah or qarrabah, meaning “large flagon.” It is thought that carboys originate from the Near East, where drug sellers used large glass vessels, filled with coloured liquids, especially rosewater and wine, in their stalls. While I type this, I am in the process of preparing the bottles (thank you Peter, Dimas, Megan and Heinold’s for your generous contributions). My lovely brewing assistant and myself will be bottling the GPA tonight, so if all goes well, we should be tasting this nectar of the grains on Valentines Day weekend. Keep you posted. If you live in SF and are interested in trying a brew and some new hand selected Om beats, leave a comment.…
Behold the Carboy, and the GPA begins to flow from the Deluxe Fermenter!
Soaking the tube in hot water softened it up so I could get it on. Nice trick, thank you Griz!
