We’re past hump day and gearing up for the weekend. Nothing better than walking in the office and having a nice remix from our favorite UK producer Mike Monday waiting for me to play loudly only to piss off the delicate workers in the office next to us. Mike Monday choose Animal Collective’s ‘My Girls’ and turned in the atmospheric original into a late night club banger. Animal Collective is fresh off the their release Merriweather Post Pavilion which comes highly recommended! Look below to stream and grab this remix and if you’re feeling it, make sure to peep Mike Monday’s solo record ‘Songs Without Words Pt. 1’.

Today marks a special day here at Om. To celebrate 15 years of forward thinking music, we’ve brought back our fan favorite series, Om Lounge. ‘Lounge’ was started by Chris Smith back in 1998 as an exploration into the newest realms of melodic, mid tempo beats. The series was the first ever ORIGINAL downtempo / chill out series. ‘Lounge’ helped to create a fan base consisting of connoisseur for all things mellow, funky, and seductively down-tempo. Over the years, the series has featured music from Thievery Corporation, Ian Pooley, Kaskade, Mark Farina feat. Sean Hayes, The Rebirth, Soulstice, Fila Brazil, as well as introduce the world to Samantha James, Colette, Colossus, J-Boogie, and more. Fifteen years and eleven editions later, ‘Lounge’ has helped to solidify Om as one of the premiere labels for downtempo electronica.
‘Lounge 15 Year Edition’ features a brand new track from Samantha James along side exclusive and new releases from Lisa Shaw, J-Boogie’s Dubtronic Science, Kissey Asplund, Woolfy vs. Projections, Rithma, and more. The newest edition also introduces the world to US’s answer to Tosca, Rocket Empire. Compiled by Om’s very own a&r man, Rob G….‘Lounge’ fans new and old will be very pleased!

Between SXSW and WMC, J-Boogie, The Whooligan, Amanda and myself took a pit stop in The Big Easy. We rented a car in Austin and took off east on the 10. As we approached Louisiana, the geography turned in a massive swampland with mangroves, sunken forests and amazing glimpses of wild life. We arrived in New Orleans that night with our mouth watering for crawfish, red beans and rice, gumbo, soft shell crab po’ boys, oysters, bread pudding and of course beignets from Cafe Du Monde. Drunk off food, we spent the next couple days exploring the architecture of the French Quarter, huge plantation homes in the Garden District and the spooky above ground graveyards. Our main mission was eating, but of course we had to fit a dj gig in between. On Tuesday night, J-boogie had the honor to rock with Soul Sister, the New Orleans tastemaker and were lucky enough to get a high quality recording. Click the banner to visit the Brooklyn Radio Beat Sauce website where you can download or stream the mix to get a taste of what J-Boogie is all about.
Mention Mayer Hawthorne’s name and watch our designer, Valerie, swoon and get weak in the knees. She’s been geeking out to the Hawthorne for some time now. Soul artist Mayer Hawthorne has been the newest of a flux of artists added to the retro soul genre. But unlike other recent inductees, Mayer Hawthorne sounds like he’s straight up from the Motown era. His tracks are reminiscent of legends like Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, The Four Tops, and similar legends of the genre. His sound has caught the ears of selectors, Giles Peterson, Mark Ronson, and Peanut Butter Wolf.
Stones Throw instantly signed him and his first single has already created a huge buzz. To celebrate the first single, Stones Throw brought it back with a classic heart-shaped piece of wax for vinyl collectors to drool over. Although it’s already been done by the likes of The Manhattans and Bobby Caldwell, it’s still just as cool. We applaud Stones Throw for keeping vinyl exciting and bringing it back!
Add this to your collection immediately…go out to Amoeba and cop your copy.

Direct from our homies Zion I, The Geek the Beat video is next level. Even noticed by Kanye West himself, the Alice and Wonderland themed video is shot through the rabbit hole in a house with the address of 808. The song itself show’s Amp Live’s diversity of production with drum & bass esq production. Mc Zion aka Baba Zumbi crafts his lyrics to perfection whiles he travels through the different environments of the next dimensional world. Click the banner to check out the video.

Om Records is proud to present a new style of remix album from J-Boogie’s Dubtronic Science, ‘Soul Vibrations,’ The Dub Remixes. Following in the footsteps of Dub Masterpieces like Massive Attack’s “No Protection” or Roots Manuva’s “Dub Come Save Me” J-Boogie takes his album into outer space and packs it into the bong. After releasing Soul Vibrations in September 2008 with critical acclaim, J-Boogie continued the vibe with music videos, Youtube features, remixes from Vadim, Crazy P and King Most, a tour with Herbaliser and an appearance on the latest Mushroom Jazz. Staying fresh on the festival circuit, touring with the likes of Bassnectar, Vadim, Spearhead, Widespread Panic, and opening up for legends such as Breakestra, RJD2, PPP, Nickodemus, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, J-Boogie has also made several international DJ trips to cities in Japan, Columbia, Canada and India. Producing remixes for Mark Farina, Alice Russell, DJ Sabo, DJ Vadim, Karsh Kale, Miguel Migs and Zeph & Azeem, J-Boogie has gained multitudes of respect within the hip-hop, soul, electronic, dance and jam band community. ‘Soul Vibrations’ is a perfect blend of why we’ve come to love him: bangin beats, future soul, dance floor party tracks and organic instrumental compositions.
‘Soul Vibrations The Dub Remixes’ is the next step in tripped out remixes from the funky studio sound of Space Echo’s and Analog Delays, featuring the full horn and percussion section plus an all-star line-up of friends having their vocals sent through the dub box including Lyrics Born, Zumbi (of Zion I), Crown City Rockers, Ohmega Watts, Rich Medina, Capitol A, Tony Moses, The Mamaz, Deuce Eclipse, Rithma, Tim’m West, Jennifer Johns, The Rebirth, Lunar Heights, and more. “The Dub Remixes” are destined to become a stoner’s classic soundtrack for the Summer.
