Naked Music NYC

How do you update the classic sound of Naked Music NYC and the original album produced by Naked Music Recordings founder Jay Denes? The original (pre Naked Music Recordings) album "What´s On Your Mind?" was released on San Francisco´s Om Records in 1998. With the release of this critically heralded album and its subsequent 12" remixes by then relatively unknown artists like Miguel "Migs" Steward, Joshua (AKA IZ), Chris Udoh (Wamdue) and Blue 6 (Jay Denes), Om Records gave the world its first taste of the Naked Music phenomenon.

With "Reconstructed Soul", Om captures the classic Naked Music sound by compiling several tracks from the album that started it all, "What´s On Your Mind?" along with past and present deep house mixes. Bringing their heavy hitting production squad, Om Records updates Naked Music´s classic sound for 2001 with brand new mixes from Kaskade, Gabriel Rene of Soulstice and King Kooba.

The collective that created the original "What´s On Your Mind?" album was a veritable who´s who of nineties soul and acid jazz musicians. Naked Music was assembled by Denes, along with vocalists Ada Dyer and Catherine Russell, over the course of 1997. The group was formed, says Denes, in order to create beautiful and classic soul music. In recording as Naked Music, Denes recruited several of his friends in the New York music community; most of whom had worked on the albums defining the late ninety´s New Soul Revolution. Jonathan Maron played bass on albums by D´Angelo and Maxwell, and is the regular bassist in Groove Collective. Bob Power, close friend and mentor to Denes and guitarist for the original Naked Music, is responsible for engineering some of the most critically acclaimed records of the nineties (A Tribe Called Quest, Erykah Badu, De La Soul, The Roots). Playing bass on several songs was Dave Boonshoft, Denes´ partner in their Soho Naked Music NYC recording studios, who also played on classic records ranging from Run DMC to Ultra Nate. Other musicians in the Naked Music family include keyboardist Itaal Shur, co–writer of Maxwell´s hit "Ascension," guitarist Mark Anthony Jones and flutist Richard Worth (Nuyorican Soul), saxophonists Bob Magnusson (Frank Zappa) and Dave Jensen (Groove Collective), and drummer Genji Siraisi (Groove Collective, Repercussions).

"Reconstructed Soul" hit the streets on September 18, 2001. The vinyl version of the album is a slamming must have for any summer jam session, released as three individual 12"s featuring exclusive remixes from Om´s hottest producers: Kaskade, Gabriel Rene of Soulstice and King Kooba. Building off the success of his stand out track "What I Say" released on Om Records, Kaskade´s signature soulful melodies and punchy bumpin´ bass lines intertwine with the powerful hook of "If I Fall" to add a breath of fresh air to any DJ´s set. The King Kooba crew comes through on a robotic electro limbo freestyle, chopping up the vocal and pumping it back amidst a driving broken beat. On the CD, the mood shifts from unreleased downtempo tracks like "3 AM" and "Live Today" to beautiful soulful house remixes by Naked main man Miguel Migs (AKA Petalpusher), Wamdue, and Joshua (AKA IZ). A collection of the finest sexy dance music, "Reconstructed Soul" is the ultimate audio aphrodisiac!
