John Howard |
John Howard started DJing in the year of 1993, San Francisco´s infamous Summer of Love, out of the genuine need to express himself and his love of music. A friend, Jay Valencia lent John his time, space, an old bi–amp and Nervous record collection to start, and in no time John found his comfort zone in deep and funky tribal masterpieces.
John´s first regular appearances were at Groove Kitchen and the Boogie Buffet, where he and Mark Farina were regular guests. Then onto Stompy Stomp, Together with Dubtribe, Spundae, Wicked and the popular mid–nineties San Francisco clubs and parties.
Currently living in New York City, John is experiencing the spirit of the East Coast, enjoying a monthly residency at Shelter for OM. While producing and collaborating on various projects and efforts John has traveled all over the US, Canada, UK, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Russia and Brussels, Spain, Paris, and greater Europe.
John´s style is solid and smooth San Francisco mixing. Funk fused with a large dose of Chicago style reckless mixing and track selection, combined with his own brand of eclectic jazz funk and Bay Area radio influences from the late seventies and early Eighties. It´s always funky and it´s always different.
For the second installment of the critically acclaimed SF Sessions Series from OM Records, John Howard delivers a set of absolutely kick ass house music. It´s on the loose and groovy, with jazzy percussion, a touch of vocals and tons of pure San Francisco flavor. The track listing includes the likes of Martin Solvieg, Bjorn Torske, Bob Sinclair, Underworld, Gabe Rene, among many others. Not to be missed.
Apart from the Session Series, John signed an original track, ´Buddha Cowboy´ to OM for the label´s 100th Release double CD.
